‘Artist in Residence’ at Guildhall Shopping Centre

Award-winning artist Volkhardt Müller has transformed a retail unit in the Guildhall Shopping Centre into a studio in which he is working on his current project, “Volkhardt Müller: Any High Street”. The space has been provided by the Guildhall Shopping Centre as part of its ongoing support of the Royal Albert Memorial Museum (RAMM), in which the work will be displayed.

“Volkhardt Müller: Any High Street” is provocative, quirky and fascinating and draws on a range of techniques including printmaking, video, 3D installation and performance. The work takes the people and places of Exeter as its inspiration, aiming to capture and condense the movements of the city and casts a light on contemporary life in Exeter and beyond.

Volunteer artists are helping to create some of the work and members of the general public are encouraged to drop by to see how it is progressing and discuss the motivation behind “Volkhardt Müller: Any High Street” and the techniques used with Volkhardt.

Andrew McNeilly, centre manager at the Guildhall Shopping Centre, said: “As far as we know this is the first time that an artist has in effect taken residence in a shopping centre in the South West in order to complete a piece of work, and we are delighted to be able to facilitate Volkhardt and his team of volunteers. This is part of our ongoing support of RAMM and we look forward to seeing the finished work in its galleries later this year.”

“Volkhardt Müller: Any High Street” will be on display in Gallery 20 at RAMM from 30th June to 22nd September. More information is available by logging on at www.exeter.gov.uk/ramm.
